Spay/ Neuter Veterinarian- $5,000 Annual Student Loan Stipend

The Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA), a celebrated leader in animal welfare, seeks a Spay / Neuter Veterinarian. Veterinarians receive a continuing education allowance of $1,500 and are eligible for a $5,000 annual student loan repayment stipend. HRA will pay for and help facilitate DC veterinary and controlled substance licenses and AVMA PLIT.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform up to 25 spay / neuter surgeries per day for shelter animals, community cats, and client-owned pets using high-quality, high-volume efficiency techniques.
• Complete other general practice-type surgeries such as mass removals and dental procedures.
• Provide medical care for the animals listed above, including but not limited to preanesthetic exams and post-operative instructions for surgery patients.
• Mentor and work alongside surgical technicians on surgical prep, anesthesia monitoring and recovery.
• Assist in identifying animals in need of emergency intervention and specialist consultations.
• Uphold the mission of HRA by adhering to organizational policies, procedures and values.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and revision of goals, policies, and procedures for HRA.
• Educate clients, adopters, and the general public on sterilization protocols and related topics.
• Maintain an understanding of the programs of HRA and work collaboratively with all departments across the organization to ensure the highest level of service and care are provided to animals and people.
• Maintain medical records and controlled substance logs to standards of veterinary and sheltering practices and organizational SOPs; ensure that records are in order and complete and maintained in organizational systems; provide information in a manner understandable by adopters.
• Communicate professionally and provide excellent customer service to a diverse range of public clients in person, by phone, and via written communication.
• Coordinate and collaborate with local veterinarians and clinic/shelter professionals to promote positive and productive relationships; participate in arranging for care at private veterinary hospitals as needed.
• Work with the Humane Law Enforcement team to properly assess, document and treat animals who are part of law enforcement cases.
• Perform euthanasia according to established protocols including decision making requirements.
• Maintain continuing education requirements and up-to-date knowledge of surgical procedures, shelter animal health protocols, and companion animal health issues.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
