The Pride Veterinary Medical Community (Pride VMC) is seeking a Part-Time Executive Director to lead our organization. Formerly known as the LGVMA, Pride VMC is the oldest professional organization that strives to promote acceptance, inclusivity, and leadership of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, veterinary medical students, of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender presentations. We seek to do so through community development, professional advocacy, and individual empowerment.
Under the general direction of the Board of Directors and in accordance with Pride VMC’s policies and bylaws, the Executive Director is the key management leader of Pride VMC. They are responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach. This is a remote position with some travel required. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board.
1) Board Governance: The Executive Director will work with the Board of Directors to fulfill the organization’s mission.
Leads Pride VMC in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board.
Communicates effectively with the Board and provides, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions.
2) Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.
Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Pride VMC, including submission of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements to the Board, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
Responsible for sound fiscal management and operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.
Responsible for fundraising, securing sponsorships, grant writing and developing other resources necessary to support Pride VMC’s mission.
3) Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
Responsible for implementation of Pride VMC’s programs that carry out the organization’s mission.
Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that Pride VMC can successfully fulfill its mission into the future.
Responsible for the enhancement of Pride VMC’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.
4) Organization Operations. Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.
Responsible for the effective administration of Pride VMC operations.
Responsible for the hiring or contracting, firing, developing and managing staff within the compensation boundaries established by the budget.
Responsible for signing all agreements and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization as directed and approved by the Board and in accordance with the Bylaws.
Actual Job Responsibilities:
Planning and operation of annual budget. Track finances and work with bookkeeper and Treasurer. Treasurer responsible for financial oversight.
Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.
Serving as Pride VMC’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.
Attend annual board meeting with ability to travel and attend one or more meetings and events during each year.
Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the United States and globally; utilize those relationships to strategically enhance Pride VMC’s mission.
Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the Association throughout the United States.
Supervise, collaborate with organization staff and board committees.
Strategic planning and implementation.
Oversee organization of Board and committee meetings, attend teleconferences.
Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
Review and approve contracts for services.
Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
HOURS AND PAY
Work estimated to require 30-40 hours/month

Preferred two or more years senior nonprofit management experience, CAE designation a plus
Solid, hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
Ability to convey a vision of Pride VMC’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors
Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
Skills to collaborate with and motivate board members and other volunteers
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff and board committees
Strong public speaking ability
Preferred experience with planning events and speaker submissions for conferences
Ally and supporter of the LGBTQ+ community
Telecommuting is allowed.
