Woodland Veterinary Hospital is seeking a practice manager for a busy, modern small animal veterinary hospital and boarding facility in Woodland, CA (northern California near Sacramento and Davis). The manager will collaborate with and take direction from a three-doctor ownership group, and would work closely with managers of individual departments (technician, kennel, +/- reception) to guide the overall working and culture of the business.
We aim to provide a supportive environment for our employees, and an opportunity for learning and growth. We believe in the principle of accountability in which all employees, from the owners and leaders to the entry-level employees, have an obligation for evaluating what they can do to solve problems. We also depend upon an open, honest, and supportive system of delivering and receiving feedback. We need a practice manager who can work within this system to build up team members as he or she is building up the business.
We also very highly value customer service and satisfaction. We aim for bonded clients who would not think about going elsewhere for their veterinary care. To this end, the practice manager would need to guide staff on how best to serve our clients, and would act as a liaison between the business and our clients.
Other practice manager duties will include, but are not limited to:
Human resources management (includes payroll and wages, employee benefits, OSHA training, injury reporting)
Regulatory compliance (includes OSHA, DEA, employment/labor law, veterinary medical practice act)
Public relations (includes internal and external marketing)
Oversight of inventory, equipment, and facilities (includes negotiation and management of contracts with vendors)
Oversight of technology as liaison between the business and its contracted IT service
Management of accounts payable and accounts receivable (includes payment of bills, preparation of financial reports, making bank deposits, acting as a liaison between the business and its bookkeeper)
Partnering with the owners in management of the financial health of the business (includes setting fees, evaluating financial performance using key production indicators)
This is ideally a full-time position (part-time is negotiable) with a rotating on-call component. Salary is commensurate with experience and training with a significant potential for increased compensation based on performance. Benefits: 401(k) retirement plan, profit sharing, health care plan with employer contribution of $450/month, discounted veterinary care for employee’s pets, three weeks of paid time off yearly with the potential to increase over time.
We are seeking someone with a working knowledge of several of the listed duties (management, human resources). The ideal candidate would be a college graduate (preferably having studied business or management) with at least two years of experience in a customer-service-focused management position. Desired personal qualities include a positive and encouraging outlook, excellent communication skills, attention to details, and a desire to innovate and grow (as an individual and as a team). Veterinary hospital experience is ideal but not necessary.
