The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 that represents over 89,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services is seeking an Administrative Assistant to join our Office of the Executive Vice President located at our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
The Administrative Assistant will report to the Senior Manager of Governance Administration and will provide administrative support to the professional and administrative staff of the Office of the Executive Vice President, AVMA leadership and governance entities, and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA). The administrative support provided to NAVTA can include responding to inquiries, ensuring NAVTA’s membership database and website are accurate and up to date, posting content on social media, and providing staff support to NAVTA Committee and Board meetings.
An Associate’s degree, with a minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience is required. Not-for-profit experience, with volunteer interaction, is highly preferred. Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to positively interact with staff, volunteer leadership and the public are essential. We require working experience and knowledge of PC programs (e.g., Microsoft Office) and database management. Must be highly organized with extreme attention to detail, good problem solving skills, and able to multi-task, with the ability to adjust and redirect attention quickly and accurately. The flexibility to work after regular business hours, including weekends, and travel on behalf of the AVMA, as needed, is required.
